Find out why cool blue will be this summer's hottest shade
Well, back in December of 2016 Pantone announced that their colour for 2017 was the verdant, nature inspired, shade of green they inspiredly dubbed ‘Greenery’. Since then it’s cropped up in most areas of design from furniture to fashion.
However, it’s being pushed out of the limelight somewhat this summer by the latest interiors trend for vibrant cobalt blues, the kinds of hues that makes one think of heady vacations on the Med, perfect for what we're hoping will be a long hot summer.
Taking steps away from the neutral, pale, Scandinavian inspired colour-ways of recent years to richer, deeper and more eye-catching colours that were once just used for accenting.
You’ll find these midnight indigos and deep azures everywhere over the SS17 period, but how can you bring a touch of the blue into your home? Check out these great products for a bit of inspiration.
Put it on the walls
Let's start with the most obvious way to embrace the trend, pasting it straight onto the walls. Blues in any shade create an atmosphere that both soothes and rejuvenates. Suitable for just about any room, these cobalt shades create a deep and mysterious feel, while feeling warm in the winter and cool in the summer.
Go for a cool cobalt rug
This rug's dynamic geometric pattern, harks back to midcentury modernist designs in a chic contemporary way. Blue rugs ooze energy and are a simple but exciting way to add a little élan to any environment.
Buy some brilliant blue ornaments
These deep shades of blue work brilliantly for small ornaments to highlight areas of the room needing a little something to draw attention. Check this fair trade earthenware vase for inspiration, which would look great in any room of the home, either with or without flowers in it.
Embrace a blue shelf
Who says that shelves need to be boring? Bold blues make brilliant accenting colours, and pair particularly well with copper and brass metallics, if you're stuck for ideas for what to put on your new storage.
Get an indulgent indigo sofa
Blue has always been a good 'safe choice' for a sofa, hides stains well, innocuous and unlikely to clash with any other items of furniture. But, a sumptuous cobalt blue sofa like the one above can actually become the centrepiece of the room. Glen and Aiden's skilled team state this particular sofa has "the comfiest and most practical cushion filling combination we have ever tested."
Sink into some cerulean bedding
With it's tranquil and relaxing aura, midnight blue is the perfect colour for your linens. After are a long or stressful day there's no better hue to sink into and drift off into your slumber. We particularly love these inky cotton linens from Christy.
