2018's Hottest Home Decor Trends

2018's Hottest Home Decor Trends

January is a time of year in which we traditionally think about ways we can improve ourselves, whether that be by purchasing a pair of running shoes (that will soon sit gathering dust in the back of the wardrobe),cutting back on the sweet treats or by trying to get on better with our extended families.

Another (arguably more exciting) way to revitalise you and your familyโ€™s life in 2018 is to improve your home. Hereโ€™s what expert design sages are predicting will be some of 2018's hottest home design trends to give you a bit of pre-improvement inspiration.

Unconvenional sinks

If you were asked to picture a sink in your mind, the chances are you'd either picture one made out of white porcelain or grey stainless steal, not copper, marble or granite. By the end of 2018, however, your idea of a sink may well have changed forever.  So-called โ€˜novelty sinksโ€™ made out of exciting, different materials beyond the traditional porcelain or steel are tipped to become one of the most desirable features of bathroom and kitchen renovations.

For a few years now concrete has shown up in the homes of the very chic, usually in the form of a stone kitchen worktop or flooring. Other uses for concrete, however, are starting to come into vogue, such as concrete textured tiling for bathrooms and backsplashes. Some interior designers are even suggesting it will soon be a common furniture element.

Agate wallpaper

The fashion of the 60s and 70s contained some of the most culturally significant creations ever designed. As such, it is no surprise that their influence has continually reappeared in interior design trends ever since, and 2018 is no different. Agate wallpaper is becoming one of the most popular ways to decorate walls.

While it might be a little too out there for some, if you like these outrageous volcanic rock inspired patterns that are reminiscent of the psychedelic adornments of the '60s and โ€˜70s then go ahead. Itโ€™s sure to turn some heads.

Colourful kitchens

Up until now, modern interior design has tended to favour a monochromatic approach to the kitchen. But now designers feel itโ€™s time to let our hair down a bit when it comes to the kitchen. Think bright and vibrant new colour combinations for your kitchen walls and cabinets. Even let them clash a bit if youโ€™re feeling brave.

Deep earthy hues

Khakis, olive green, tans and darker browns are all set to surge in popularity. While once they might have been considered drab, dull or plain ugly. The reassuring, airy, calming qualities of deep earthy hues are making them a particularly in vogue choice for bedroom walls. These hues can give the room in which you sleep the tranquil atmosphere of a forest on a beautiful winterโ€™s morning.

Ultra Violet

Pantone announced to some surprise that their colour of 2018 was โ€˜Ultra Violetโ€™ a colour which they state communicates, originality, ingenuity and visionary thinking, to help us look toward the future.

In interior design Pantone suggest that โ€œUltra Violet can transform a room into one of extraordinary self-expression, or conversely its polish can tone down a room with subdued, modern pairings. Adding spice and brightness, Ultra Violet calls attention to a tufted couch, piece of art, or accent wall.โ€

Best style is YOURS!

Whether youโ€™re thinking of updating your bathroom, kitchen, bedroom or any other room for that matter, home decor trend-watching can be a great way to get inspiration. But remember, itโ€™s more important to find a style that you love for your home, rather than whatโ€™s tipped to be trendy.
